Avenger Military - The fully automatic, close-range Avenger anti-aircraft system is the Army's primary fire-mobile anti-aircraft weapon. It is a light, mobile and transportable surface-to-air missile firing unit with eight Stinger missiles in two rockets. It acquires, identifies, tracks and engages targets (low-flying helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft) from a stationary or moving position.
Mounted on a multipurpose high mobility vehicle, the Avenger can operate in extreme weather conditions. Infrared systems, computers, communication equipment and laser sighting detect targets during the day and night.
Avenger Military
The Avenger turret can be easily adapted to various combat vehicles, such as trucks, trailers and tracked vehicles, or used as a remote-controlled autonomous unit. The system is highly automated to assist the gunner quickly and efficiently with target location, identification, tracking and missile lock-on. Total system performance is optimized with automatic insertion of lead angle and altitude during missile launch. Avengers can be lifted by helicopter and, when mounted on pallets, dropped from tactical aircraft.

Boeing delivered the first production unit in 1988, and by 2002 more than 100 Avenger units had been delivered to the Army, Marine Corps and National Guard. Enhanced with new products, production of the Avenger is planned after 2005.
